This Volvo Amazon Custom has been on my mind for a very long time.
I have been trying to do a Restyled Volvo Amazon Sedan for some time with different succes. For this version I wanted to stay close to the original design and incorporate some styling ideas from Harry Bentley Bradley’s 1949 Ford Sedan from the 1990’s.
The idea about this restyling is how I think the original design team might have created a one-off car for the Car Show circuit when the Volvo Amazon was brand new in 1956. To help the sales on the production car a Amazon Design Study was created.
The car in this article Digital Restyled in Photoshop.
The top was chopped a few inches and the windshield was lowered into the body eliminating the upward edge below the windshield.
The rear window was leaned forward and the rear of the roof reshaped to match and flow a bit more than original.
The side window opening was completely reshaped to flow better with the new roof shape and polished stainless steel door frames replace the the original body color frames. I used window frames from a 1950 Lincoln to make it work.
The main body is cleaned up a little and the headlights moved forward slightly. The trunk and catwalk was lowered a little bit to fit better with the new rear window position.
The wheel opening lips were reduced to make then look a little sleeker, and also to raise the wheel opening a little to allow the lowering of the suspension, and still be able to turn the front wheels. A reduced - in height - front indicator light was used both front and rear. The car has original early version hubcaps with the original red accent color replaced with body color paint to fit the theme a little better.
Fun project
